Acting to connect seventeen outstanding practitioners, the annual Shrewsbury International Asia (SIA) Chinese Learning Conference took place earlier this month.

Hosted by Head of Chinese at Shrewsbury International School Hong Kong and newly appointed Chinese Curriculum Coordinator for SIA, Haze Kwok, content centred upon curriculum development and pedagogical approach. A sequence of regional team presentations provided insight into the unique benefits of the Chinese programme available to Shrewsbury students and acknowledgment of the outstanding opportunities on offer across the SIA group.

“One of the most important distinctions of the programme available at Shrewsbury is the way in which lessons are delivered. Colleagues from the Chinese language department work in close collaboration with others across the school and are regularly involved in peer observations, committee work and student performance. An overarching commitment to fluency ensures that students enjoy Chinese language learning and wield their fast-developing skills confidently.”
Haze Kwok, Head of Chinese, Shrewsbury International School Hong Kong, SIA Chinese Curriculum Coordinator

The conference was informative, engaging and productive. We return to our departments energised and excited about the ongoing development of the Chinese language curriculum.”
Vivian Yu, Head of Chinese, Shrewsbury International School Bangkok Riverside

“Connection with colleagues across the Shrewsbury family of schools enables us to share best practice and to unify our commitment to the development of the very best imaginable Chinese language learning programme.”
Michael Wu, Head of Chinese, Shrewsbury International School Bangkok City Campus

“The Chinese language programme available at Shrewsbury International School Hong Kong holds a unique position in the region. Both regularly taught and deeply interconnected, advanced level students are given the opportunity to develop true bilingualism, while those new to the language take those first few steps towards the development of early language use. We take Chinese language learning seriously and are greatly appreciative for the outstanding work conducted this year by our dedicated team.”
Ben Keeling, Principal, Shrewsbury International School Hong Kong
