WHY CHOOSE SHREWSBURY?
Shrewsbury International School Hong Kong was founded in recognition that our childhood experiences have been shown to have a profound and often irreversible impact upon our adult lives.

WHAT MAKES SHREWSBURY UNIQUE?
Shrewsbury International School Hong Kong is the only premium provider of primary education in the region. Set up to deliver an inspirational selection of educational experiences designed exclusively with the best interests of young learners in mind, we ensure that every learner benefits from every available advantage.
WHAT DO SHREWSBURY STUDENTS LEARN?
Founded upon the Early Years and Foundation Stage framework and the English National Curriculum, six guiding principles underpin provision. Our programme of study is broad, balanced, inclusive, creative, challenging and engaging. Designed to support the development of a strong foundation of knowledge and understanding, it acts to equip, enable and nurture a skillset fundamental to creative engagement.
Throughout the school, units of learning are arranged thematically so as to explicitly connect the many distinct subjects of study undertaken. Thematic interconnection supports the development of immersive and involving learning experiences.
Lessons are designed and taught by an exceptionally talented team of highly qualified teachers. Class Teachers are responsible for the vast majority of subjects. Chinese language, Music, Performing Arts, Physical Education and Aquatics are taught by subject specialists able to offer domain specific expertise.
The delivery of a bespoke programme for Chinese language and culture lies at the heart of our efforts to ensure that students develop a rounded, respectful and appreciative view of the world. Chinese lessons centre upon regular rehearsal and practical application. We use a broad range of stimulating resources and encourage exploration and experimentation in order to develop linguistic confidence in every student. Historical study is used to contextualise, enrich and deepen understanding.
HOW DO SHREWSBURY STUDENTS LEARN?
Our pedagogical approach is research informed. Drawing upon cognitive load theory and centring upon the way in which we sequence and model learning, question for understanding, guide independent practice and review material, it has been developed in light of our context: we serve a highly capable, multi-lingual and internationally mobile community.
WHERE DO SHREWSBURY STUDENTS STUDY NEXT?
The process of Secondary School Selection is guided by a designated Schools Partnership Coordinator. Three distinct phases act to guide engagements over the course of a student’s final three years.
Standardised assessment scores, school reports, classroom observations and social analysis are combined with feedback from the student themselves and direct input from parents at every step on the journey.
Shrewsbury International School Hong Kong works in close affiliation with Shrewsbury School. As such, we are able to secure direct and seamless transition at the age of 11 via Packwood for students that we believe would benefit from an independent co-educational British boarding education.
